B i o g r a p h y

Joshua Reznicow (b. 1975) is an active composer, music educator, and guest conductor for youth and honor orchestras. For more than 25 years, he has taught middle and high school orchestra in the Linn-Mar Community School District. Under his leadership, the Linn-Mar orchestras have earned numerous awards and superior ratings at regional festivals and have twice been recognized as a Grammy Signature School music program.

Mr. Reznicow also serves as adjunct faculty at several area institutions. He teaches composition at Coe College, founded and directs the University Strings program at Mount Mercy University, and was recently appointed director of the Cedar Rapids Community Orchestra (CRCO), collaborating with community musicians and students through Kirkwood Community College.

His work has been recognized with both regional and national honors, including winning the 2005 Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA) annual composition contest. In 2011, he was named the State of Iowa Classroom Teacher of the Year, and he is a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Northern Iowa.

 

As a composer, Mr. Reznicow’s music has been commissioned and performed across North America, Europe, and Asia, with works spanning professional and educational ensembles alike. His catalog includes pieces for string orchestra, full orchestra, concert band, film, and chamber groups. He has received multiple performances at the prestigious Midwest Clinic—International Band and Orchestra Conference—and his works have been featured several times on J.W. Pepper’s “Editor’s Choice” list for both string and full-orchestra publications. His compositions are published by Randall Standridge Music, Zicato Music, Tempo Press, Kendor Music, LudwigMasters, Latham Music Publishers, TRN, and Keiser-Southern Music.

 

Mr. Reznicow is a member of several professional organizations including the American String Teacher Association (ASTA), the Iowa String Teacher Association (ISTA) where he served as Member at Large-East on their board of directors, the Iowa Composers Forum (ICF) where he was a past secretary on for their board of directors, the Iowa String Orchestra Affairs Committee (SOAC), as well as holding the assistant coordinator position for the Iowa All-State Orchestra. Mr. Reznicow currently resides in Marion, Iowa with his wife Karen, and their two children Andrea and Aiden.
